THE STORY BEHIND THE PICTURE
As the first light of dawn broke through the morning mist, I found myself standing in awe, gazing at a majestic elk, proud and powerful, in the heart of the Canadian West. The elk, in the midst of its rut, stood tall and territorial, exuding strength and confidence as it surveyed its domain. There was something raw and unspoken in the way it carried itself. In that moment, I felt an overwhelming sense of inspiration and respect.
The power of nature was on full display, and I knew I had to capture it. Mesmerized by the rarity of this scene. I had my eyes glued to my camera to capture this colossus from the best possible angle. Then as I zoomed out, I realized that he was only 4 meters from me! Knowing that during the breeding season, these titans can be aggressive, I stopped all movement. We looked at each other without moving for about a minute which seemed like an eternity. We can only be filled with respect for such a beautiful creature after having crossed her path so closely.
