THE STORY BEHIND THE PICTURE
A small island in the Gulf of St. Lawrence appears when the thick fog clears. It is the home of the largest colony of northern gannets in the world. This small cottage, perched high on the shore is worn out by all possible forms of water. It is exposed to the elements of the sea and seems very fragile but yet it survives wear and tear.
The Black & Worn collection includes works in black and white showing the wear of certain elements in their environment. These works are all long exposures, giving way to the movement of nature which contributes to their wear. In an era where consumption takes precedence and where we replace rather than repair, this collection shows the beauty of worn, eroded elements which have faced the elements for tens, hundreds, or thousands of years, and which nevertheless radiate of a certain beauty.
Although this collection highlights landscapes, the message it sends is just as human. How many people have been worn out by life, but hold on and never give up. The landscapes of Black & Worn pay homage to them.
