Wind & Fire
is the portrait of an imposing and majestic Nordic horse. Watching him approach me as I crouch in the snow, I try not to jump whenever he lets out his powerful smoky breath. He stops a few feet away from me facing me.

by the burning fire of the golden hour
drawing the shadow and the light of a portrait that I can't miss. I go all in, at the risk of losing that moment, I lie down quietly on my stomach, swapping my mobility for an even lower angle. I don't believe there is a position in which you can feel smaller and more vulnerable in front of a horse of such stature. That’s the angle and the emotion I needed to capture so much presence in a "closeup" portrait. Although we sometimes feel small and vulnerable in the face of the force of nature, this is often where we feel the most freedom...

and a lot of preparation.
I had been looking to photograph horses for a year, but not at all costs, I knew what I had in mind would take time to find. I wanted a clean background, beautiful, free and imposing horses with the force of winter nature clearly present in their portrait.
