A thin space between the artwork and the frame gives the impression that the artwork is floating within the frame. THE STORY BEHIND THE PICTURE
This image was created WITHOUT photoshop and with just one click. It's been a long time since I had in mind to feature palm trees in one of my photos. But these trees have been photographed millions of times and I wanted a different image. The opportunity came on a special day in Spain this spring.
I took this colorful and energetic photo on the north coast, in the Asturias region, during a rare natural phenomenon. The kalima is a powerful wind that brings with it the orange dust of the Sahara. Very rarely seen in the north of Spain, this one created a unique veil in the sky. It felt like being on another planet. I knew that unique lighting opened the door to some truly unique photos.
So I took the opportunity. I found the prettiest palm tree in the place, then waited until the sun was perfectly placed behind it to create a strong backlight. Using a wide angle lens I was even able to exploit a palm tree behind me to dress the top of the photo with an original perspective. Finally my long exposure allowed to have a little blur in the beautiful palm leaves to create a bit of movement and a dreamy effect.
I repeated my recipe until the waves at the bottom of the photo gave me foam at the base of the palm tree. Lo and behold, with a little patience (45 minutes on a tripod) I created an image of a palm tree that won't be copied any time soon!
